Just What are Antioxidants?

  • Posted on March 11, 2009 at 4:08 pm

Antioxidants are found in most skincare products and specially in ones for anti-aging.
The most popular antioxidants that are used for skin care products are the vitamins A, C and E.

Scientific tests have shown that they help to improve the condition of the skin and reduce additional damage occurring that causes the aging effect that we are seeking to eliminate.

The damage to the skin is caused by free radicals and antioxidants help to fight off these free radicals and thereby improve the condition of the skin. Free radicals cause damage to your skin over time so using any skincare product on your face that helps fight them off, is a good idea!

Antioxidants are in no way harmful to the skin and not only can they protect the skin from damage but they have been to shown to actually reverse some of the damage that has already occurred to the skin of many people.

This has an anti aging effect and the publicity that has surrounded the discovery of this information has resulted in antioxidants being included in almost all skin care products to meet the demands of the consumer.

Sun damaged skin in particular has been shown to improve in condition when antioxidants have been applied directly to the affected area.

There are various different sources of antioxidants and some of the more popular ones are grape seed extract and green tea extract. There is one out of the United Kingdom called Rapeseed Extract which is what they use instead of Olive Oil. It works amazing with your skin. One brand called Natural Empathy use it in their skin care product line. Worth really checking them out!

Grape seed extract has shown to reduce inflammation of the skin and in addition it helps to strengthen the capillary walls. It is a popular inclusion in many skin care products due to these properties.

Green tea on the other hand has shown to reduce the size of pre-cancerous skin lesions in various tests due to the active ingredient catechins.

With the use of these naturally occurring antioxidants the damage that is caused to the skin by the free radicals that degrade the collagen and elastin is reduced and the positive effect that they have in assisting the skin to renew damaged cells has the desired anti aging effect that people are looking for.

Just a little information you might be interested in reading about when trying to understand what antioxidants are and why they just might be good for you inside and out!

How do I Remove the Dark Circles Under My Eyes?

  • Posted on March 6, 2009 at 9:03 am

We’ve all had them from time to time – those wonderful dark circles under our eyes that either means tiredness or a good night before, amongst other things. Whether you’re a young party goers or someone of an older disposition, these often-unattractive patterns are there for everyone to see. But what causes them and how can we remove them?

The Causes of Dark Circles Under Eyes
There are a number of ways that dark circles under eyes can be caused, and although they are more prevalent in people of an older age, they can affect the young too. Some of the more common reasons for dark circles are: · Old age. As we grow older, our skin becomes more translucent and this in turn makes the veins underneath our skin come to the fore. This results in the dark circle look.

· Diet. We’ve all heard of how a balanced diet is good for our overall health, and this includes our eyes. Lack of nutrients can lead to our bodies breaking down, again leading to dark circles under our eyes.

· Sleep deprivation. Whether you’re burning the candles at both ends, or suffer from sleep problems, the end result is the same, and often more pronounced as the eyes get puffier when tired.

How can I remove Dark Circles Under my Eyes?
Although they can be slightly ugly and give you a more haggard appearance than normal, the good news is that dark circles under the eyes can be cared for quite easily, and are not usually permanent (unless there is a bigger underlying issue, such as insomnia, where medical advice should be sought).

“There is a great product by Ella Blue called Shadow Magnet.. It works to help hide the dark circles! Check out Shadow Magnet by visiting Overall Beauty ~ Ella Blue Shadow Magnet comes in Light or Natural.”

There are a number of ways you can help prevent the build-up of dark circles in the first place, and they include:

· If you’re out in bright sunshine, always wear dark sunglasses. Combine this with a strong sunscreen for the area around your eyes, such as Factor 30 – not only will this protect your eyes from the sun’s UV rays, it will keep your skin strong.

· Drink lots of water. Pure water has long been associated with smoother skin and an effective barrier against aging. · Get as much rest as you can. Not only will you feel more alert yourself, your eyes will feel less strained, reducing the chances of dark circles under them.

If you have already noticed that you have dark circles under your eyes, then there are a number of methods you can make use of to reduce the circles, and they can all be used with simple household items:

Cut some cool cucumber into two slices and apply them over your closed eyelids. Leave them on for 15 minutes for the best results.

Similarly, get two cool teabags (normal tea, though, not herbal) and apply them to your closed eyes as you would the cucumber.

Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables with Vitamin C and iron. When these two vitamins are combined, they strengthen the skin, once again reducing the chances of dark circles under the eyes.

Does dark nail polish dry faster than light nail polish?

  • Posted on December 8, 2008 at 11:06 am

I got asked this most interesting question today about nail polish..  The question I was asked was does dark nail polish dry faster than light nail polish?

After looking into this question being that it is dark nail polish season (WOOT! Bring them on baby!) this is what I found out. No dark nail polish doesn’t dry faster than light nail polish does. For some reason it takes dark polish longer to dry specially if it has glitter in as well. BUT I have found that BB Couture dark nail polish colors dries faster than OPI’s when testing them against each other. In fact light dries faster and doesn’t show if you chip it or smudge it either as much as dark nail polish does. When it comes to applying dark nail polish one must use less and wait at least 2 minutes between coats. I have found that some either need 3 coats of polish when applying some dark nail polish colors over light nail polish colors.

The best thing you can do is after you have applied your nail polish either dark or light color use a good top coat. I have personally found that Top Rock by BB Couture is the best there is! Top Rock top coat comes Raspberry scent and those with a little extra time Extreme Top Rock is even better! Pretty hard to beat Top Rock but Extreme Top Rock has been tested out on my fingernails wearing Dragon’s Breath and has lasted up to a week before chipping! Now I am someone who isn’t easy on her nails, I type a lot so I am always busy and not having your nail polish chip within a few days is great!

Top Rock

Top Rock

I hate chipped nail polish and I don’t really care if some famous actors are into showing off their nails with chipped polish. I think it just shows they are too lazy to get their nails fixed.

In fact from Overall Beauty here is a review for Top Rock!

“This top coat is awesome! So far no chips or peeling! Which is a major plus, but come on how can you not like a top coat that dries and smells like raspberries after. That is some crazy cool effect! It also applies really great, just like their regular polishes. The application of all their nail products are way smoother than most of the other nail polishes.” ~ Jen

For those looking for a great nail polish deal, all orders of BB Couture nail polish if you order 3 or more nail polishes get a FREE Top Rock! From now till the end of the year! Its that good and I want everyone to test it out and give me their thoughts. Don’t you want the best for your nails?

Halloween Makeup Tips ~ Who Do You Want to be this Year?

  • Posted on September 30, 2008 at 7:55 pm

Halloween comes around every year, and every year there is some Halloween party you been invited to. And as usual you are not even sure you want to go, why? Because you never seem to be able to create the right look to go along with the Halloween costume you just spend money on. Most men really dig going looking as grossed out as possible and some years you are cool about it but what if this year that just isn’t your thing? What if you want to really be that sexy playboy bunny or Marilyn Monroe, evil genie, a fairy or something like that? And you are just not sure how to do your Halloween makeup? You just don’t want to go one more year wearing ripped up clothes, and dirty things.

This year you are going to be wearing a costume that is going to turn you into a knockout! Making every man in the room wish they were your date! Now you know if you buy the wig, shoes and more its going to cost you almost $100.00 plus costume! Do you want your Halloween makeup to reflect you normal everyday makeup or do you to really look like a playboy bunny, or farm maid, sexy cop? They show all the amazing Halloween makeup looks on the packaging, how do you feel about creating one like that?

Besides one of the reasons we dress up for Halloween is to truly be someone we would never be in real life. Temptress’s of the night anyone?

The style of Halloween makeup you will need to do is going to be a bit harder to do because you need more but not looking like you went at it with a paint brush.

You never know who you might be meeting at all those Costume parties, Costume Contests, Masquerade balls, Themed Night Clubs that we as grownups love to be at on Halloween right? A lot of these parties happen all year around, but Halloween just seems to bring more grownups out to play. Why not go looking like Super girl this year?

Some Halloween makeup ideas are going to take a lot of different colors to make the whole look come together. What’s different about going glam instead of ghoul is the style of course of the makeup and what you do to create it.

After you have pick out the costume you want to wear this year its time to decide how to do your makeup. Don’t bother going out and buying more makeup, you wear makeup everyday anyway right? Why buy makeup that is geared and created just for Halloween? Unless you really dig black nail polish, most makeup colors you will need you already have. This is you we are talking about, use what you know works with you, not some cheap stuff you are not even sure who makes it, just use yours.

Have you checked out the makeup they offer at the local Halloween Store? Are they nuts? Its grease paint at best, sure its only a few dollars but can it be used for creating the Genie you want to be? Probably not. That makeup you find there is good for kids not good for the looks you are going for. You really need a Halloween makeup DVD to walk you through the best ways to use your makeup to create the most stunning looks you see on the packages when you view the costumes. Some of those looks such as Marilyn Monroe, Evil Genie, Playboy Bunny really need a step by step video you can watch to make it work correctly. If I were you I would be looking into getting the Halloween Makeup DVD Collection Vol. 1 with 13 Hot looks you can create. Wow its so worth the money! I even heard that if you buy 3 mineral eye shadows you might even get the Halloween Makeup DVD for free! Check out Overallbeauty.com for details.

Take a good look at your face and decide which your best feature is and as always work with it. For our example, we are going to use farm maid. All of these ideas and tips can be found on a DVD called Halloween Makeup Collection Vol. One with more information on the how’s to step by step.

For a farm maid, or cowgirl you are going to want simple, but it still needs to be seen. So more makeup than usual will be needed but tasteful done.

Start off with your best feature you are going to want to play up, and we are going to use eyes as our example.

A farm maid is going to have a simple innocent look such as doe eyes. As virgin as the day you were born. It’s not the easiest look to pull off but if you really think about what your makeup needs to be and you will need to plan out because you want it to last all night no matter what.

Start off with your makeup primer, or foundation all over your eyelid. A cream eye shadow will work just as well if you have one, only make sure it’s a nude color. This is to keep your makeup in place. Next you will need a all over color and for this look pick something really light such as a cream or white.

Smudge your base color on the lid, blending up and out towards the brow till it pretty much just fades away. A nice gray or soft brown will would work well for this.

Next you need to intensify that color with a darker color by adding it to the crease of the following the natural curve of the socket. Lighten under the brow line and use a round makeup brush to smudge it the two colors together starting from the outside in.

Go easy on your eyeliner and do wear mascara. If you look younger than you are, your eyes will be just right for this look. Just make sure that your black magic mascara doesn’t get all over under your eyes, it will take away from this look. No smoky eyes here! You need to look young and innocent so stay simple with what you are wearing as well. Pretty doe eyes, looking like you just came back from milking the cows, in Daisy Duke short shorts. That will drive them wild at the next party you go to!

Don’t forget your blush so use a pretty baby pink and place it on the apple of your cheeks for your farm maid or cowgirl look.

This is the Halloween you need to set away from looking like you are going to be playing with dead people all night and walk out into the spotlight looking totally hot! Make the guys wish you were their date, and they came as James Bond 007 instead of the walking dead. Anyone can be a ghoul but only those with the true know-how of how glamorous makeup is done can pull off the more beautiful looks. This year let it be you! Have fun this Halloween, and watch out for all those ghouls!

What does your makeup say about you?

  • Posted on January 30, 2008 at 9:34 am

I been people watching again, and I noticed something ever odd in a way. Older women wear too much makeup and teenagers are wearing less. Most teenagers are wearing less, there are still those that pile it on but most are going for that more natural look these days. Why hide behind layers of foundation? I will never understand that thought.

Do you use a eyelash curler? I noticed that with those that do and you can tell if its not used correctly, that their lashes curl from the base but its more of a square look. Like they go straight up from the base. It looks so fake! There is no real curl like you see on the models in ads. What happens when you use a eyelash curler that if you do not walk it up your lashes you get this more square look not a true curl. There are mascaras out there that say they curl but that still depends on how you are using it I guess.  I use Magic Lash which curls the lashes while you are applying the second coat of mascara over it. Opps sorry..
Magic Lash
works like this:
You apply a layer of mascara
You then apply very little Magic Lash
You apply your mascara over it.
Its something you have to work with but I been using it for three years so to me its simple but for others maybe not so simple. Anyway back to eyelash curlers, I have one that is for those who have bad hands. It works great and I use mine when I don’t feel like going the extra steps of using Magic Lash + Black Magic Mascara.. Great set btw if you tell me that you read about it here, I will give you a free eyelash curler with your order. How awesome is that?
A good friend put out a DVD called Holiday Makeup Collection Volume One that shows you how to do glamorous makeup is and they used Magic Lash in 2 of their 7 hot looks! If you need a little help on this idea doing makeup correctly I been buying that DVD. I got to see it before it came out for sale and was blown away with the ideas for makeup tips in short 20 minute videos.

Just a few thoughts running through my mind today on what does your makeup say about you and a few tips given just for fun!

Sugar Body Scrubs or Salt Body Scrubs ~ Which is Better?

  • Posted on October 12, 2007 at 10:45 am

Today handcrafted body scrubs or any kind you pick up at your local drug store are all the rage. If you have never tried a sugar body scrub then hopefully this article will help you pick out if sugar is better for you or salt or a combination.

When so many of us do not have the time to take a bath but for rare occasions, taking a shower has become the norm. The only problem with taking a shower is you don’t get that I just spoiled myself feeling, or leave the shower feeling like you just been pampered.

Showers on the other hand have to be fast and sometimes hurried. That where a good body scrub would come in. You could wash your hair and while your hair has the conditioner on it instead of using a body wash you would use a body scrub. Do you know how to pick a body scrub or what are some of the main ingredients you should find in one? Simple question sure but do you?

First off body scrubs are never meant for your face so please do not use it that way.

There are three main types of body scrubs, you have one that is all sugar, ones that are all salt and ones that are a combinations of both.

The main ingredients in all scrubs is sugar or salt or both and some type of oil.

Let’s start off with what is a sugar body scrub?

Sugar body scrubs meant to exfoliate, moisturize, and improve circulation. What’s great about sugar body scrubs is that when they have been created with Shea Butter they go on extra smooth and leave your skin soft, and touchable. With just a extra few minutes in the shower is all it takes. What is also good about sugar body scrubs is they tend to melt as you are exfoliating your skin. Your body has lots of dead skin cells on it, most we don’t even see, a good sugar scrub with remove it and leave in its place a softer smoother skin. You would leave your shower feeling this way every time you use it. A sugar body scrub is better for those with more delicate skin but still want to exfoliated their body.

There is only one draw back to most scrubs is that they can leave a film on the bottom of the tub because of the main ingredients besides sugar is an oil. The oil used in a sugar body scrub like is the glue that holds it together.

You can make a super simple one with just a cup of sugar and adding enough olive oil to make smooth. There is no amazing scent but it works.

The handcrafted sugar scrubs are some of the best in the world because the creators all take the time to test out the scrubs before offering them to you. Its possible to get scrubs that are created for those of who enjoy unscented, vegan, heavier scented and with all types of oils in them.

To name a few ingredients:

They could have milk powders, almond oil, rice powder, emu oil, grape seed extract, olive oil and so many others. Two major ingredients that you will find are Shea and or Cocoa butter. Shea and cocoa butters is loved by your skin because they are absorbed by your dry and thirsty skin which then can deliver long-lasting moisturizing benefits. With sugar scrubs they could be white sugar, brown sugar or again a combination of both types of sugars. There are some that are made with raw brown sugar as well.

Those who create handcrafted ones are in for the joy that they know it will give you and sure a little money as well. The only draw back to the sugar body scrub is those that have diabetes should check with their doctor before using it as well as the one that is a combination of both.

It will come down to what feels best of your skin, and how you feel once you step out of the shower. If you feel rough and raw then you better stay way from salt body scrubs, if you feel smooth and pampered then that sugar body scrub is the best for you. If you are not sure you even like the one you are using, then stop using it and get one that has something different in it. You will find that if you buy handcrafted body scrubs the ingredients will be words you understand, usually the English name and then what they are called in Latin.

Start looking into what’s in your body scrub, because it maybe helping you or it could be harming your skin. Rough feeling is not what your body should feel like after using a body scrub! With so little time to pamper ourselves sometimes a simple sugar body scrub is all you to brighten your day.

Got Combination Skin? Here are a Few Helpers For You

  • Posted on May 31, 2007 at 1:53 pm

First starters what is combination skin? This skin type is normally a mix of oily skin in the center of the face, ( an area commonly called the T-Zone) plus dry or normal skin on the cheeks. Treating combination skin is a matter of balance.

Your aim is to treat the problem without drying out the other areas on your face. Your first step will be the cleansing, its best to avoid harsh oily skin or milky cleansers that are formulated for oily skin and instead use a moisturizing cleansing bar or facial wash. The idea is the foaming of the cleanser with help strip the oil for the oily parts of your face without dehydrating yours cheeks at the same time. After cleansing use a gentle exfoliater because many women find that they have dry flakes of skin and pimples around the nose and an exfoliator will help that not to happen.

There you go a few tips on caring for your combination skin, I will do dry and normal and oily at another time.
