Creating Intense Smoky Eyes

  • Posted on August 30, 2008 at 8:20 pm

Smoky eyes come in many different colors these days from grays and black, to purple, blues and browns. . It has been said you must use dark and neutral colors, like dark grays or blacks. But not so true in today’s modern world. When you really think about it, smoky eyes are the bedroom eyes of the sirens of yesteryear. The sirens of the past all had a signature look that even you yourself can create.
Your basic smoky eyes take only a few items to create with.
Two eye shadow colors that are in the same family of color. Grays work well with black or another shade of gray. Dark colors are the norm, not forgetting you need one color to contrast the other.
You must have eyeliner! Either liquid eyeliner, pencil or just use the dark color eye shadow as eyeliner but eyeliner is a must have. Along with a black mascara and if you want your lashes to be way out there, don’t forget Hollywood’s secret weapon Magic Lash! Works better than false lashes and just easier to work with.
Also don’t forget your basic tools of smoky eye creating, two makeup brushes, one to apply your eye shadows and one to blend/smudge with. A smaller tip makeup brush works great adding depth to your crease as well as applying eye shadow to be used as eyeliner. Q-tips are great to have on hand as well. As well as a eyelash curler to really open your eyes with.
Other items you could use if you really wanted, a makeup primer to keep your eye shadows in place, concealer under your eyes to lighten up the area and even a matte white eye shadow to put in the corner of your eyes just above and around the tear duct. We are going for intense here but this look is yours to have fun with.

In your 20’s using liquid eyeliner is truly fun to go bold with. Paint a black line above your lashes that widens and extends upward at the outer corner of your eyes, letting it dry for at least 5 minutes before touching it. While in your 20’s smoky eyes can be easily pulled off using this dramatic effect without looking like a clown.

In your 30’s black liquid eyeliner maybe too harsh for you. Not counting Angelina Jolie eyes that is. Her look is not a smoky look per say, but she has the most asked for look in today’s Hollywood elite! The reason why it said that’s its not really smoky eyes is because of the choice of color eye shadows that are used. But still she has the sexiest eyes on the planet!
To really enjoy the truly sexy look of Angelina Jolie, check out her signature bat wing black liquid eyeliner, her expertly arched eyebrows, she often reminds you how truly elegant she is with yet a touch of a rebellious edge.

The major reason why her eyes are such the focus is how she wears a pale, translucent hue that provides an amazing contact to her rich black eyeliner. The look is created in two stages, first liquid eyeliner is applied to the upper lashes only, winging out at the edge. Then a matte black eyeliner is dotted between her lashes for extra eye definition. Even while pregnant her eyes are to die for!

The rest of us in our 30’s and beyond try using smudgeable pencils as it can be a better answer than liquid eyeliner. Use the color that most matching the dark eye shadow you are using for your smoky eyes. To use pencils in smoky eyes layer your eye shadow over your pencil. The color of choice needs to applied at the base along your lashes. Applying eye shadow over the pencil deepens the color and helps pull the whole look together.

Also with eyeliner don’t use it on the bottom lashes from inner corner on out, start in middle and then wing it out. That doesn’t close off the eyes making them smaller, your want your eyes to look as big as they can and still be smoking!

Just remember that no matter how dark your eyes are, you need to match them with nude lips. Nothing better to steal the spotlight off your eyes then a pair of bright red lips. It also ages you as well and not one wants to look older than they really are!

Makeup: Have you ever Wondered About it’s History?

  • Posted on August 7, 2008 at 1:43 pm

Cosmetics as a whole have been around for thousands of years. In the past some really strange items were used to enhance beauty, even a few of been down right lethal. What do you know about the history of makeup?

Origins of makeup

The use of natural materials, such as minerals and vegetable dyes pre-dates civilization as we know it. Such items where used in rituals and as adornments.
It was in Ancient Egypt that manufacturing cosmetics and scents on a large scale was first perfected. They say the greatest Egyptian Queen Cleopatra is credited to compiling what has to be the earliest books of beauty hints.

Many of their preparations were used for religious and symbolic reasons. The Egyptians love for their paints can be seen today in the exquisite work of the jars found in the tombs, many with their contents still intact. Beauty was important to both men and women. A high-born lady of the time most important feature were her eyes. With the use of Kohl to emphasize the eyebrows and it was used to give their eyes their distinctive winged look. Not unlike the cat’s eye look of today which is now created with the use of liquid eyeliner.

Moving on in our makeup history lesson.
Next we have the aristocratic women of ancient Greece who apart from enhancing the color of their lips with vegetable dyes, used very few cosmetics. The real users of cosmetics such as white face powder and Kohl was restricted to the courtesans, as a sign of their profession.
Roman women on the other hand couldn’t use enough makeup. Some were known to be so enthusiastic about hair dyes and bleaches that partial or even total baldness often happened. The wearing of exotic wigs and using smelly conditioners to save the hair was often used to try to hide the facts of going bald.
After the fall of the Roman Empire makeup fell out of favor until around the 11th century when the Knights returned from the Crusades. The Knights reintroduced makeup, fashion and other toilet preparations that the women they left behind in the Palestine were using.

You know there had to be resistance but it didn’t come from the women of that time period, no it came from the all mightily Church itself.
Then around the 15th century and the time of the Renaissance that our natural love for all things of beauty were allowed a free reign.

Renaissance Makeup or lack of.

In the Renaissance time, makeup was an almost ghostly white complexion that was ideal for both men and women. It was thought of as a way to distinguish the upper class from the peasants and laborers in the fields. One of the biggest examples from the time period was Queen Elizabeth I of England. It was her use of cosmetics that popularize facial cosmetics among the women. The queen had a naturally fair complexion that was reinforced the fashion of whiter than white skin. With the use of egg whites, ground alabaster and clay, masks and that now infamous white lead, all these were used to aid in the illusion of super white skin.
In the 17th century makeup really had a major influence from the fact that theater became popular. That parts once played by young boys could now be played by young ladies. Young ladies playing the part of young ladies, who would of thought?

Moving on down in makeup’s history time.

It was the 18th century that beauty and pain started walking hand in hand. All types of beauty aids of exceptional discomfort and as well as absurdity came about. Rouge was still popular as ever for men and women. This was the time that lipstick in pencil form was introduced and hair? Well hair took off in all types of strangeness. Hair styles were so complex and it took days sometimes even weeks to create. It was set and left as long as they could before redoing it. There was also time of bugs in hair, even mice were reported.
It was towards the end of the century public opinion turn against excesses of the earlier decades.
The Regency period of England saw a return to the more natural look were herbal preparations, many home-made came into favor. Face powder and rouge was still popular but the women of this time had to be more discreet about using it. Powdered wigs and complex hair styles also fell out of favor. The desirability for cleanliness as a health and beauty need was now widely recognized. Respectable Victorian ladies were even more demure with their uses of cosmetics. Barest a trace of rouge of the lips and cheeks was considered ok but they usually had to apply it in secret. Maybe this was the time it because fashionable for ladies to visit restrooms in groups like we do today.
Home-made skincare preparations and beauty hints with recipes were found in the women’s magazines and journals of the day. Rich society women would visit Salons under disguises in fear of being found out that they were enhancing their looks.
Thank goodness for the popular actresses of the day because towards the end of the century, they helped pave the way towards a more liberal attitude using of cosmetics as beauty aids.

This takes us up to modern times before World War One. Now you may have a better understanding of were our love for beauty, cosmetics, hair care, skincare comes from. Thanks to earliest man for trying to please their gods, to the ancient Egyptians, Romans, and good old Queen Elizabeth the First. All who have taught us what not to use and what to use for beauty. Kohl was made popular by ancient Egyptians and is still as big today. Some of your home-made recipes may of come from the turn of the century. Beauty and the use of cosmetics will always be a sign of our times.
Beauty will always be a part of what is going on in the world as a whole and what we see on the movie screen. Hope you enjoy your little lesson is the history of makeup.

You can create your own spa in your own home

  • Posted on May 17, 2008 at 11:07 am

Most women like to feel pampered once in awhile.  A day at the spa, a manicure or pedicure,
or a massage can do wonders for a busy woman that is on the go. Pedicures give pregnant women
at time to rest their feet and be pampered.   Taking care of children and
working at a hectic job takes a lot out of us. All this combined you
really do need a little bit of pampering to keep you going in your busy lifestyle.  Unfortunately,
not all women can afford the luxuries of a spa day or a trip to the salon. If we could we would
probably spend more time there than at home. Sometimes we can only relax when we are always from
home. If that is the case, why not bring the spa home by taking advantage of bath and beauty
products that you can use at home?

Makeup is an Art ~ Do You Do Art?

  • Posted on May 2, 2008 at 1:27 pm

Makeup is an art where you can create an illusion that can transform one face into many
different personalities.

By applying makeup strategically you can enhance or minimize the effect that one part or
another on the face might have on your overall appearance.

pink lips, do you really want them? While most women won’t have lips like Angelina Jolie there are some steps that can be taken
to enhance the ‘pout’ and give your lips a sexier look.

One of the tricks that makeup artists will use is to apply less color to the center of the
bottom lip.
Some refrain from using any color at all and in doing this they can create an illusion that
the lip is fuller in that area.
An alternative to this is to apply a shimmer to the middle of the bottom lip, as this will
give the same illusion as a lack of color in that area.
To make the upper lip look fuller, a makeup pencil can usually do the trick if applied
correctly.
This is done by penciling a light or white line just above the top edge of the lip in
the center of the ‘cupid’s brow’
This creates the illusion of a fuller lip.

There are various products on the market that are advertised as ‘lip plumpers’ and while
it isn’t possible for them to actually plump up the lips they can help to create that
illusion that the lips are fuller and for this purpose some of them do a really good job.

These products are designed to reflect the light when applied to the lips and this gives
the effect that the lips are fuller.

There is always surgery as a last resort but the products that are on the market can do a
really good job of creating sexy lips for most people and the results will look a lot more
natural than those you might expect from surgery.

Sensuality Secrets ~ Do we REALLY Understand Our Purpose as Women?

  • Posted on November 23, 2007 at 12:17 pm

I got this most amazing newsletter today that I just had to share it! In fact you will see my name as one of those who gave testimonial for it. I don’t make any money off offering this ebook to you, its just that its so neat of a ebook that its kind of a real beauty secret. Not many of you know why dancers seem to have all the men, or even why when you watch dancing with the stars on tv why one couple with win over the other. Its all in the way a dancer shows off her stuff without really showing off anything.. ;)

Here is the newsletter I got this morning that I felt you just might get a kick out of!

I did ask permission first and Patty the cool lady she is, said go right ahead!!

“Do we REALLY understand our purpose as women?”

Dear Kim:

Have you ever felt confused with all the information that has being given to you and then, be at a stand still for fear of making the wrong move?
Well, I sure have… plenty of times. The day I made a commitment to question the direction of my life, was the day I understood the meaning of the word responsibility. I can remember reading so much information on any topic and then feeling hesitant to take a step, afraid to make a decision for it could be the wrong one because I couldn’t use ignorance as an excuse any longer.. Exhausting!
Some deep breathing and a smacks across the head (my Italian upbringing came in handy), usually put me back on track. All this… “How do I fix it? How can I avoid this? How can I make it better?”… was shutting down my feelings. I was disconnecting with the very part of me that is female.. my heart.
So now, I needed to understand why I kept detaching from my feelings.
(I know, it sounds like I have a disorder).
During my endeavor, I recognized how to align with my feminine more deeply.
So what does that mean?
I’ve spent some time studying male and female energy and comprehending the meaning of each.
Let’s start by defining both.. first male energy.
It’s the element where drive, focus, discipline and purpose stems from. It is solution oriented always looking for the best strategy to accomplish the result needed. Male energy plans, organizes, leads and controls any situation to encourage success.
Now let’s look at female energy.
The energy is sensual, open, life force and creates space for emotions and feelings to flow. The feminine is a state inducer that enjoys revealing the senses. It’s sustained by color, sound, touch, taste, smell and intuition for it longs to feel love through everything and everyone.
Alright… now you have a brief description of both.
Can you see how living in a society where pursuing deadlines and achieving goals has denied our state of “being” and “feeling”.We are so busy planning with our minds that we tend to ignore our senses, our emotions and our bodies. We are walking around almost out of touch.
Luckily, some of us take yoga classes, dance classes, cooking classes, learn how to play an instrument… anything to get back into what our essence needs to feel nourished… Love.
What do I mean by love?
Our body and our heart yearns to be loved. Deep down we are wanting to be seen for who we are, beyond our suits that we wear to portray our professional lives.
Underneath each suit, lies a woman… a sensual woman who loves every part of her body, mind and spirit. She is vulnerable and wants to feel secure to surrender to the love of a  an without fear that he will be frightened by her demonstration of tears.
We’ve become purpose driven women who can achieve any goal we set, yet may have forgotten that our feminine needs to be nurtured.
So, how do we do that?
We embrace our purpose!
I’ve observed using your feminine energy, body language and compassion to inspire and invite a man to connect with his heart and yours while cherishing the value of your needs, keeps you aligned with your purpose.
In other words, entice and attract, keep your needs in the forefront of your mind and chop of his balls with LOVE when he doesn’t act with integrity.
Sound harsh?
Not really. Understand this isn’t an invitation to nag a man because you will repel him and it’s not an invitation to avoid expression what you need because he won’t see your worth. It is an invitation to come from a place of compassion (because we are all trying to do our best) and stand in your values.
So what does all of this have to do with body language and sensuality?
EVERYTHING!
This helped me realize that I am more than just flirting with a man… I’m inviting him to his heart because most men have a  difficult time with this.. it is not part of the male energy. And what makes a woman attractive is her ability to lead a man to his heart fist through her body language and most importantly through her heart.
This has given me a renewed sense of purpose… leading with my feminine energy!
This is why body language and sensuality is extremely important to learn.
I have realized how being in my body helps me connect with my feminine energy more.
This is why YOU need to read my book.
Insider you’ll see pictures and detailed descriptions of how to stand, walk, sit and use eye contact to achieve rapport with a man. You’ll find that each description to be easy to understand and effortless to accomplish.

Sugar Body Scrubs or Salt Body Scrubs ~ Which is Better?

  • Posted on October 12, 2007 at 10:45 am

Today handcrafted body scrubs or any kind you pick up at your local drug store are all the rage. If you have never tried a sugar body scrub then hopefully this article will help you pick out if sugar is better for you or salt or a combination.

When so many of us do not have the time to take a bath but for rare occasions, taking a shower has become the norm. The only problem with taking a shower is you don’t get that I just spoiled myself feeling, or leave the shower feeling like you just been pampered.

Showers on the other hand have to be fast and sometimes hurried. That where a good body scrub would come in. You could wash your hair and while your hair has the conditioner on it instead of using a body wash you would use a body scrub. Do you know how to pick a body scrub or what are some of the main ingredients you should find in one? Simple question sure but do you?

First off body scrubs are never meant for your face so please do not use it that way.

There are three main types of body scrubs, you have one that is all sugar, ones that are all salt and ones that are a combinations of both.

The main ingredients in all scrubs is sugar or salt or both and some type of oil.

Let’s start off with what is a sugar body scrub?

Sugar body scrubs meant to exfoliate, moisturize, and improve circulation. What’s great about sugar body scrubs is that when they have been created with Shea Butter they go on extra smooth and leave your skin soft, and touchable. With just a extra few minutes in the shower is all it takes. What is also good about sugar body scrubs is they tend to melt as you are exfoliating your skin. Your body has lots of dead skin cells on it, most we don’t even see, a good sugar scrub with remove it and leave in its place a softer smoother skin. You would leave your shower feeling this way every time you use it. A sugar body scrub is better for those with more delicate skin but still want to exfoliated their body.

There is only one draw back to most scrubs is that they can leave a film on the bottom of the tub because of the main ingredients besides sugar is an oil. The oil used in a sugar body scrub like is the glue that holds it together.

You can make a super simple one with just a cup of sugar and adding enough olive oil to make smooth. There is no amazing scent but it works.

The handcrafted sugar scrubs are some of the best in the world because the creators all take the time to test out the scrubs before offering them to you. Its possible to get scrubs that are created for those of who enjoy unscented, vegan, heavier scented and with all types of oils in them.

To name a few ingredients:

They could have milk powders, almond oil, rice powder, emu oil, grape seed extract, olive oil and so many others. Two major ingredients that you will find are Shea and or Cocoa butter. Shea and cocoa butters is loved by your skin because they are absorbed by your dry and thirsty skin which then can deliver long-lasting moisturizing benefits. With sugar scrubs they could be white sugar, brown sugar or again a combination of both types of sugars. There are some that are made with raw brown sugar as well.

Those who create handcrafted ones are in for the joy that they know it will give you and sure a little money as well. The only draw back to the sugar body scrub is those that have diabetes should check with their doctor before using it as well as the one that is a combination of both.

It will come down to what feels best of your skin, and how you feel once you step out of the shower. If you feel rough and raw then you better stay way from salt body scrubs, if you feel smooth and pampered then that sugar body scrub is the best for you. If you are not sure you even like the one you are using, then stop using it and get one that has something different in it. You will find that if you buy handcrafted body scrubs the ingredients will be words you understand, usually the English name and then what they are called in Latin.

Start looking into what’s in your body scrub, because it maybe helping you or it could be harming your skin. Rough feeling is not what your body should feel like after using a body scrub! With so little time to pamper ourselves sometimes a simple sugar body scrub is all you to brighten your day.

Liquid Eyeliner ~ Easy or Just Forget it?

  • Posted on August 31, 2007 at 2:22 pm

Ok who doesn’t have trouble with liquid eyeliner.. You want to look so cool and if you don’t have it just right it looks really bad. Ever heard that it does bleed too? Oh great I take all that trouble to get my cats eyes on and loose part of the eyeliner cause its bleeds? I don’t like that idea all ready. So I was blogging at Glam.com and I needed some info on eyeliner and what would make it easier to use.

Knowing that I do know a real makeup artist I asked Beth Bender Beauty about. What she said to do is using her stencils and eye shadow do this.. Take a little shadow and get it wet and then when you have the stencil in place on your eye you can put the eyeliner on and wow there you go! Cat eyes!!

Or smoky eyes depending on what you like most. Now if you really must have the wet eyeliner look .. still using her stencils go dark eyes on a pretty girlahead and add the shadow that comes in the set and then go over it with a wet eyeliner. That way its going to stay put cause who has time when you go some hot man checking you out.. Do you really want to run to the bathroom to check to see if your smoky eyes are still there? I didn’t think so… Do be careful out there ladies.. looking so hot with those smoky eyes can really get them thinking… bedroom eyes maybe?
